Bathurst is a regional centre of New South Wales about 3 hours drive west of Sydney and home to about 20,000 people and all of the major car hire companies so you will always have a good selection here.

It is also home to several private high schools and a university. Many people visit Bathurst for car racing with nearby Mount Panorama being one of the most famous car racing spots in Australia and home to Australia’s most famous motor race. You can even pay to take your own car around the track. There are plenty of places to stay in town to suit almost any budget and you also have a choice of a couple of caravan parks and camping grounds. If you are coming to Bathurst during a race meeting then accommodation can get very full so make sure you book ahead.

If you are using Bathurst as a base, then there are plenty of great places to explore. To to east are the famous Blue Mountains and beyond that, Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. Around Bathurst are plenty of rural areas as well as several wineries and if you head west, the town of Orange is not too far away (about an hour by car).
