Wollongong by Hire Car

Location: Wollongong > New South Wales

If you are heading to Wollongong for a visit, then getting a rental car might be the best way to go. While most of the things to do in the city are within reasonable walking distance of each other, the surround areas require a visitor to go slightly further afield.

Within the city of Wollongong itself, you have two fantastic beaches for surfing or swimming or just lazing around in the sun. North Wollongong Beach is a favourite with the local surfers. Separating the two beaches is a small peninsula with a lighthouse and a yacht club (which has a fantastic little restaurant). There is also a great running track going from the south of Wollongong beach all the way around to North Wollongong beach for fitness freaks. The town itself has a lot of great little restaurants and cafes.

If you are heading further away that the main area of the town, then renting a car is probably the most convenient way to go although Wollongong does have pretty good transport options to and from Canberra and Sydney. (In fact many people live in Wollongong and commute to Sydney). Sydney is about an hour to the north (with a lot of fantastic beaches in between) and Canberra is about three hours to the south west.
