Ayers’ Rock by Hire Car
Location: Ayers’ Rock > Northern Territory
Ayers’ Rock is also commonly known by its Aboriginal name, “Uluru” and is one of Australia’s most famous land marks and one of the places that many international visitors want to see. It is also a very long way from almost anywhere.
Getting to Ayers’ Rock can be done by bus from Alice Springs, but there is also the car rental option if you want to avoid the package tours or hordes of other tourists so hiring a car is actually a very good way to go.
At the Rock itself, most people content themselves with touring and photographing it or relaxing in one of the nearby resorts.
If you want to drive further afield, then the next major settlement is Alice Springs which is quite a way. After that, you would most likely be heading either north to Darwin or South to Adelaide. These lie huge distances away so make sure you really want to go there. Most people choose to fly into Alice Springs in order to see Ayers’ Rock.
