Avalon Airport is a regional airport serving Melbourne in Victoria. It is used by small aircraft and is also a maintenance depot for larger airlines such as QANTAS. It lies a little over an hour’s drive to the west of Melbourne and is also quite close to Geelong.

In terms of things to do near Avalon Airport, perhaps the biggest even of the year is the Avalon Air Show which is the biggest air show in the southern hemisphere and attracts many participants from around the world as well as a huge amount of people. If you are going for the air show, be sure to book accommodation early in either Geelong or Melbourne. Geelong is also quite close by and a nice little town to explore. It has a very successful Australian Football team that are very popular so you can catch a game if you like.

Further away from Avalon Airport, you have Melbourne to the east with its many attractions, museums, theatres, galleries, sporting events, pubs, clubs and restaurants. It is quite easy to spend a couple of weeks exploring. You can also travel west from Avalon Aiport past Geelong and into the rural areas of Victoria including a lot of beautiful national parks.
