Bendigo is a regional centre of Victoria in Australia’s south about 80 miles north of Melbourne.

It is a well known town and has a long history stretching back to the gold rush days of the 1800s. It is also a great place to take a day trip out of Melbourne by going to the north along the Calder Highway. If you want to stay overnight, there are plenty of local accommodation options that should suit a mid-range budget. There are also great place to photograph nearby including the local lake.

For adventure further afield, Melbourne lay about 90 minutes to the south and Ballarat is a couple of hours to the east. Adelaide can be reached to the west in about 9 hours and Canberra is about 6 hours to the north of Bendigo. You are also in the heart of rural Victoria when you stay in Bendigo so the chances for exploring by rental car are great and the chances that you will end up where no other tourists go are virtually certain.

As such, Bendigo is a great place to go for that unique rural Australian experience.
